The 4th International Conference on Renewable Energy Investments and CDM

The 4th International Conference on Renewable Energy Investments and CDM is the Nº1 renewable energy and CDM event in Chile, organized by the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO). The event provides the opportunity for networking by bringing together private investors, carbon market intermediaries, national project developers, service suppliers, banks, public agents and experts in the renewable energy and CDM sectors.

Mr.Fcoar I`d like to make you a question:
what is your opinion about the construction of the hidroelectric central in Aysen? are you agree or desagree and why is that?
thanks

Dear Friend,

Your question is really important, I have been thinking about it, but unfortunately I am not really informed about the project, but to start with I get the impression that the project is efficient from the energy perspective but is not good from the environmental point, because this has too much impact in the environment.

We have to think if we want the Aysen Region as a nature reserve or as a region who produce electricity destroying the ecosystem. The government has to make the decision. I think we should reject the Project or at least we have to learn and ask for advice from developed countries in order to make the right decision. With this project, the government has to be very strong. The government has to invest money into protecting the environment, promote the tourism development in the region and mainly look for new alternatives of energy generation that has less impact on the environment and focus more on the correct location and less on the transmission line. With this project we could have a lot of energy, but we are going to destroy our country’s beauty. Also considering that we have the challenge of climate change.

Also we have to promote the decentralization of our population, This Project shows that the all energy production will be sent to Santiago and that's not a good sign.

On this point, the government is doing a great job in promoting the development of unconventional renewable energy (ERNC) and we are seeing the results. The challenge for Chile is that we have to diversify our energy matrix in order to be self sufficiency. In this way, the country reduces its dependency on foreign petroleum, avoids the difficulties of importing hydrocarbons from neighboring countries, and limits the scope of environmental debates surrounding fossil fuels.

Under the diversification of the matrix, we know that the hydroelectric projects are important, however, the first thing is to see if the project complies with environmental laws.

As the minister Tokman said; “actions that must take in energy policy pass to promote efficient energy development, but which reconciles with the safety of that supply, environmental sustainability and equity in access to energy”.
