" 12 days after the earthquake"

After 12 days of the earthquake of 8.8 degrees on the Richter scale, the situation in Chile is a little "calmer" and it is re-establishing the basic services, but not everywhere.
Approximately in 50%. Many families mainly in the north coast of conception lost everything. (Talcahuano, Tumbes, Penco, Lirquén, Dichato, Coliumo, Iloca, Constitution).
To date, the number of dead is 497.
Army forces still control the city and are not allowed to walk in the streets between 21:00 PM and 06:00 AM, unless one has a safe-conduct.
In Concepción, around of 6 to 10 buildings will have to be demolished and other 60 buildings have structural damages. It is not yet restored the sales in supermarkets.
We have a tremendous problem of connectivity between San Pedro de la Paz and Concepción. There is only one bridge operating, but with restrictions.
The other bridge will have to be demolished. Several streets have been destroyed and some roads are not operating.
We have to be very careful when we drive and the time takes much longer. For example when we cross the bridge, it takes around 1 hour and sometimes 2 hours.
Gradually, LAN flights are operating normally in both domestic and international flights. The port of San Vicente is already operating to foreign trade. Public transport is returning to "normal".
The hard part is that we still have strong aftershocks in our areas devastated.
Despite all this my spirit is to go forward against all the adversities.

Poverty

The crucial definition, from the existential point of view of what is poverty, it is denied freedom. When someone lives in poverty they are denied in developing they own natural talent in order to improve their standard of living. I feel that is the most valid definition that is used a lot by economist who specialized in this field: you have the capacity, you were born with capacity to better yourself, but the opportunities are very limited and as they are limited you cannot develop your skill and this will permanently deny you of freedom.

ISA

The infectious salmon anemia (ISA) is a disease caused by a virus family Orthomyxoviridae, genus Isavirus. The infection affects the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), mainly fish grown in sea water.

A virus called infectious salmon anemia, or I.S.A., is killing millions of salmon destined for export to Japan, Europe and the United States.

President Michelle Bachelet announced her government will guarantee millions of dollars in loans to struggling salmon companies, which have been hit hard over the past year-and-a-half by an ongoing outbreak of Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA). A highly contagious virus, ISA can be lethal to fish but does not affect humans.

Additionally, Bachelet said Chile will join Canada and Norway in co-financing research to map the salmon genome, “which will allow the country to carry out research to improve the species through variables like growth or resistance.”
The rescue measures were well received by SalmonChile, the country’s principal private producers association. “The measures are a sign of confidence and demonstrate that salmon farming is viable and has a big future in the southernmost regions of the country,” said SalmonChile President César Barros. “We hope the banks cooperate enthusiastically with this initiative and provide the necessary loans.”

The leading national economist Felipe Larrain, who was last Wednesday December 10 at Puerto Montt, confirmed that the current situation affecting the salmon industry in the wake of the spread of the virus ISA will bring a "frank and sharp deceleration" in the The Lakes Region.

Felipe Larrain said that it is wrong to think that the measures announced by the Government are intended only to "save the owners of businesses," adding that "the important thing is to preserve this heritage of the region and the country and provide continuity beyond the crisis ISA.

Olympic Games, Beijing 2008

Yesterday was the opening day of the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. After travelling 137,000 kilometres through 130 cities in 130 days, the Olympic flame finally arrived at Beijing yesterday in the morning which was used to light the Olympic cauldron in front of a full stadium of people. The next 16 days will see some of the world’s top athletes compete with each other for gold medals.
Yesterday’s date was the 8th August 2008, also written 08/08/08. In China the number 8 is considered to be a very lucky number, combined with the opening of the Olympic Games yesterday was a very special day for the Chinese. Many Chinese mothers were trying to give birth to their children through natural birth, caesarean or induced labour as children born on this particular day are believed to be lucky in China.
